I was traveling all last week, so a lighter lift this time around!

TV

  • MarriageToxin | Jomyaku Yuma, Yamaguchi - The first few seconds is EXCELLENT. Very gripping and intriguing. The gender play stuff in fine, but ultimately it bounces all over the place (with vastly different animation quality)
  • D-Frag - One of the most aesthetically pleasing opening/intro sequences. Otherwise very, very boring.
  • Dungeon People | Sui Hutami - Too slow even for a slice-of-life for me.
  • Agents of the Four Seasons Dance of Spring | Kana Akatsuki, Nappa Komatsuda, Suoh - Soooooooooooooooooo slow and boring.
  • Witch Hat Atelier | Shirahama Kamome - I read the first few volumes of the manga and liked it enough to keep reading. Ultimately, I was never really into the series. It’s one of my cousin’s favorites - and he has a weird sense for when a manga is going to get adapted in an anime and how popular it’s going to be - so I gave it a read. The anime came out and it’s okay. It didn’t leave an impression, which may be due to having already read the story and the anime stays very close to the source material. I will keep up with the anime to keep in touch with my cousin and niece, but otherwise would drop it.

Books/Manga

  • Cyberpunk 2077 NO_COINCIDENCE | Rafat Kosik - Wow, I just grow in how much I abhor this novel. I can’t decided if it’s written by a boys-club old-head who just pushes through narrative and writing that we left behind for a reason, or a man-child who still thinks saying “fuck” is giggle worthy and throwing in excessive violence for no apparent reason makes something “cool.” The more I read (I am at about 300 of the 400 pages), the more I am in disbelief that this book was published. More than anything that this author was one of the writers on the excellent anime!! WHAT THE FUCK?! How did something that made me cry lead to something that has turned my face red in anger?! Earlier on, I felt deja vu that this book feels like a shitty knock-off of the anime, using the anime’s story as a shell, but throwing on different names and well, there it is. It probably was. I am going to finish my hate read and try to provide some more depth as to why this pissed me off so much, starting with it’s almost 4 star rating on GoodReads. This is somehow on the same playing field as Forbidden Fruits having a positive LetterBox’d rating. Who am I?

Games

  • Sol Cesto | Tambouille, GĂ©raud Zucchini, Chariospirale | 2026 - I saw this game via NoClip and knew that this was finally the roguelike//gambling game for me. Sol Cesto’s artstyle is insane an painfully beautiful with animations and hidden secrets that provide levity. It’s a run-based game in which you encounter a grid with a mixture of enemies, heals, treasure, and traps. You have to make it so many floors to send your money back up, or you lose it all. The UI, risk communication (each grid square has a % of you landing on it), and fun run-specific upgrades and permanent upgrades fill out the world and keep the gameplay interesting. I am 2.5 hours in and very satisfied. Just watch the trailer and you will know if this is for you.
  • Slay the Princess | Black Tabby Games| 2023 - Okay, you should just buy it and play it. You should be exposed to as little of this game as possible if you have any shot of every playing it. I will give my one-line sales pitch if you need it, but recommend not. This is if the Monty Python writers made the Stanley Parable, and if that doesn’t sell you that GTFO.
