Media Noms: Week 11 2026
March 9th - March 15th 2026
A short one this week, I was traveling for most of it!
TV//Anime
- Fruits Basket | 2019 - I really didn’t know what to expect jumping into this series. It has an insanely huge following and reputation, moreso than Nana or Princess Jellyfish in my world. I guess I’m on a 2000s manga binge, so why not throw this one in. I am tired of buying omnibus volumes every few weeks, so I popped on the anime and am really liking this series! The core conceit and inciting incident are compelling, the plot is very slice-of-life chill, and the characters are 2000s goodness. I can’t complain and I don’t take this as serious as Princess Jellyfish or Nana, I just don’t care as much about the characters or plot, which is great! It’s a good watch and I’m excited to keep plugging through a few episodes a week forever more. Also, the whole cross-gender hugging thing is the most fanfic ass insert I’ve seen in awhile lmao. So cringe, so perfect.
Music
- We Live Here | Bob Vylan - Recommended on the punk anarchy podcast. Apparently pretty revolutionary politically and the stuff he does. Chill song too.
- BIG MAMA | Flying Lotus - New album. It’s an almost for me. Like the periphery of good videogame, chip-tune inspired music. Soooo close, but I feel like every song is a bit off. Hoping this is to someone’s taste!
- Girl Like Me | PinkPantheress - There’s also a Kaytranada remix if that’s more your vibe. Less club, more chill listening.
- BEG! | Vana - She’s really hot.
Podcasts
- Punk Anarchism: An Anti-Politics of Resistance, Sean Parson | New Books in Critical Theory - More of a conversation than book talk. More hope than theory. A worthwhile listen, if only to hear two like-minded, passionate experts talk about who they are, where they come from, and how that all panned out in academia.
News//Essays
- Fujoshis Had Their Fun, Now It’s Himedanshi’s Turn To Go Mainstream | Isaiah Colbert | Aftermath - Himedanshi (“Princess Boy”). I think in the sickness of identity politics and force-queering of leftist//leftist-adjacent spaces, we are in dire need of the himedanshi. Will we ever let men appreciate WLW in this way? Unlikely, but perhaps it can spur a proper community and the mergent WLW fag hag can emerge. Unlikely, but it does help place some of my friends that I thought were women, but just may be dudes that have the emotional capacity to appreciate lesbianism.
Books//Manga
- Kase-san and Yamada | Takashima, Hiromi | Seven Seas Entertainment - It’s just okay. There are some visuals that are excellent and moments that are captivating, but the moments inbetween are a slog. It needs to be more toxic or better slice-of-life for me.
YouTube
- We Have Made Evil Too Sexy | Daryl Plays Games - Another solid entry by DTG. Reze mentioned, so you know I’m there.
- The LOST MEDIA of Spotify… | The Small Arts Initiative - A really excellent video series! Props to anyone who takes the time to uncover stories and bring small artists to the fore.
- COMPUTER WORLDS - A New Showcase Celebrating Strange & Distinctive Games | no_clip2 - My favorite videogames guys got a whole ass Steam event highlight! Loving all the games they highlighted, and indie recs coming out every few days.
- how you’re getting effed becomes a browser extension| Louis Rossman - Nice.
