Thoughts: The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds kindled a love with the Zelda franchise for me. While I did play Ocarina of Time, I didn’t play it the right way. I didn’t play for fun, I played to complete it. I didn’t find joy in running head first into the puzzles, I hid behind guides and Let’s Plays. What those runs lacked in mechanics, they did get me into the world of TLoZ. The music, the characters, the design, and the world. And, for that, I’m grateful. I do feel like I’ve come along way with my appreciate of the franchise, which makes the Phantom Hourglass my first Zelda game in which I know how to have fun with them, sooooooo how did it go?

Thoughts:
On July 9th I posted another round of Steam Next Fest demos, a habit I am overjoyed I started taking up about a year ago. Over that time, I have played over 20 demos (not a ton, but a lot for me!). The most memorable demo of those 20-ish games is Desktop Explorer. If you can get your hands on the demo, it’s the first hour(ish) of the full game, and it’s brilliant. The pacing, narrative, music, and just-the-right-touch of creepy pasta all lives so well in its 90s Windows aesthetic. I found it compelling and intriguing with nostalgic puzzle mechanics based on your knowledge of how desktops work. It was such a simple conceit with a motivating mystery that I knew I had to buy it when it fully released.
